Flagler Hospital Opens Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
On August 1st, Flagler Hospital opened it's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  The level II nursery provides advanced monitoring and clinical services for premature and ill infants requiring specialized care. The seven bed unit at Flagler features advanced technology, board-certified neonatologists and specially trained staff who tend infants 24 hours a day. The NICU has the ability to keep infants 32 weeks and greater with their families, right here in St. Johns County, rather than transporting them to Jacksonville.

"We understand that offering the best in neonatal intensive care means caring not only for the complicated medical needs of a fragile newborn, but also the emotional needs of parents," commented NICU Manager, Vanessa Lenoir.

Flagler Hospital submitted its initial application in September 2008 after a thorough analysis of the community need.
