Recognized in the Top 50 for Digestive Disorders, Neurology & Neurosurgery and Respiratory Disorders
SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla - July 16, 2007
Flagler Hospital has been named among U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Hospitals 2007," having ranked in the top 50 in the country for its performance in the areas of digestive disorders, neurology & neurosurgery and respiratory disorders. Flagler is the only hospital in Northeast Florida to be recognized in more than one category.
"This acknowledgement from US News & World Report affirms Flagler Hospital's position as one of the leading healthcare providers in the nation," commented Flagler Hospital President Joe Gordy. "The significant investments we have made in technology and talent, combined with our unmatched commitment to patient-centered care, have been validated, and we will continue to make even greater strides toward providing the best possible patient experience."
Each year, US News & World Report identifies hospitals that excel at complex procedures and conditions. This year, 173 medical centers out of 5,462 nationwide were ranked as "America's Best Hospitals". Some of the factors that were taken into consideration included quality indicators such as patient volume, relative balance of nurses to patients, advanced technology and credentialing by professional bodies.
According to the article in U.S. News & World Report, "Hospitals that got through the second gate then received a score combining three equally weighted elements: reputation, death rate, and care-related factors such as nursing and advanced services. The rankings consist of the 50 highest-scoring hospitals."
Flagler Hospital is a 316 bed acute care hospital serving St. Augustine and surrounding Florida communities. Flagler Hospital is the region’s only hospitals to receive the ANCC Magnet hospital award and is recognized nationally for overall clinical excellence.
