Breastfeeding Support

If you are breastfeeding, a lactation consultant will visit you to provide physical and emotional support as you are adjusting to the breastfeeding experience. The lactation consultant is a registered nurse who has received additional specialized training in helping moms and babies with breastfeeding. After you go home nursing staff will follow up with you via phone to see how you and your baby are doing and to address any additional problems you may have encountered since discharge. After discharge, breastfeeding assistance is available to you 24 hours a day by calling the nursery at 904-819-4061.

Monthly breastfeeding support group meetings are also offered at the Flagler Hospital Wellness Center. The group welcomes breastfeeding mothers and their babies and pregnant women the second Thursday each month from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm . The Flagler Hospital Wellness Center is located at 120 Health Park Blvd. The class is facilitated by Dottie Colsant, RN, MSN, CLC; Angela Haynes-Harris, RN, CLC; and Alanna White, RNC, IBCLC.

The breastfeeding support group annually celebrates World Breast Feeding Week by gathering together and uniting toward this important cause. The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), and breastfeeding advocates in more than 170 countries worldwide celebrate World Breastfeeding Week each year.
